TEXT: REVELATIONS 1:10 & 4:1
1:10 I was in the Spirit on the Lord's day, and heard behind me a great voice, as of a trumpet, Are you in the spirit enabling you to hear God’s trumpet?
4:1 After this I looked, and, behold, a door was opened in heaven: and the first voice which I heard was as it were of a trumpet talking with me; which said, Come up hither, and I will shew thee things which must be hereafter.
The trumpet is the “instrument” God often uses in His Word as His witness. When we hear it God is speaking to us. He continues to sound His trumpet,.. throughout the ages.
If we listen to the message, God is faithful to administer to our needs. The question remains,..”Can you hear the trumpet sound?” Here the trumpet is the proclamation of God’s word. The old testament is full of the sound of “the trumpet.” There are various accounts. This refers our memory to the following scriptural references where God sounds His biblical trumpet for the spiritual life of souls.
I Kings 1:34,39,41,42 34 And let Zadok the priest and Nathan the prophet anoint him there king over Israel: and blow ye with the trumpet, and say, God save king Solomon. 39 And Zadok the priest took an horn of oil out of the tabernacle, and anointed Solomon. And they blew the trumpet; and all the people said, God save king Solomon. 41 And Adonijah and all the guests that were with him heard it as they had made an end of eating. And when Joab heard the sound of the trumpet, he said, Wherefore is this noise of the city being in an uproar? 42 And while he yet spake, behold, Jonathan the son of Abiathar the priest came; and Adonijah said unto him, Come in; for thou art a valiant man, and bringest good tidings. As seen here in these verses, the trumpet of God was not only used in an anointing, but to proclaim God’s word by the prophets. It illustrates also that the trumpet was used to show tidings of great news and joy.
II Samuel 6:15,16 15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet. 16 And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul's daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.
The ark was returning to it’s proper place. God is faithful in returning His trumpet message today. When He “plays” it, it resonates in our soul. There is an agreement in the heart of His children.
Psalms 150: 1-3 1 Praise ye the LORD. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. 2 Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. 3 Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. We must have a “trumpet sound” from our heart, showing we are changed. Can You Hear the Trumpet Sound? Often the trumpet only is heard by a “garbled” sound. But the changed heart hears clearly the trumpet sounds through God's chosen means. At first it was not so clear, but when a soul’s desire is changed, they hear that trumpet sound clearly. The sounds of the enemy are like a roaring lion. I Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour:
God is shown here in the scriptures, to speak also in a still small voice. I Kings 19: 9-13 12 And after the earthquake a fire; but the LORD was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice. 13 And it was so, when Elijah heard it, that he wrapped his face in his mantle, and went out, and stood in the entering in of the cave. And, behold, there came a voice unto him, and said, What doest thou here, Elijah? God’s voice referred to here, is in that form of a still small voice, illustrating here our need to be listening.
Isaiah 27:13 And it shall come to pass in that day, that the great trumpet shall be blown, and they shall come which were ready to perish in the land of Assyria, and the outcasts in the land of Egypt, and shall worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem. God’s Church is when souls are following, listening, to His trumpet sound to worship Him in the Beauty of Holiness. If we don’t listen,..it will no longer sound for us.
Bro Goble referred in illustration to those phonographs of prior times. When one would put the needle on the record incorrectly, it would have a screeching sound. Likewise we need to be properly attuned to God’s way, to hear His lovely sounds of redemption.. and judgment direction. We need to recognize the difference of God’s trumpet of truth, as opposed to the sound of the false trumpets of deception.
Exodus 14:16 And it came to pass on the third day in the morning, that there were thunders and lightnings, and a thick cloud upon the mount, and the voice of the trumpet exceeding loud; so that all the people that was in the camp trembled. Today we also need to hear, and listen for God’s clear trumpet sound. It is that, which in the midst of the battle, identifies the difference of His trumpet from those of false prophesies. God’s trumpet is a symbol of God’s desire to communicate to us. We need to be attuned to God’s voice/trumpet, from the captain of our host. Otherwise we will be consumed spiritually. There is strength in the numbers gathered of His body, for His purpose. For imposed isolation will make us susceptible to wandering off from hearing false trumpeted doctrines.
Joel 2:15 Blow the trumpet in Zion, sanctify a fast, call a solemn assembly: The trumpet also was to gather the people, to be sanctified in holiness. Those not listening to hear the trumpet sound would wander off from God’s chosen. A promise is found in the listening and following God’s true trumpet sound,..it is to be gathered together and lifted up in His holiness, keeping free from reproach. Can You Hear The Trumpet Sound?
Jeremiah 4:5 Declare ye in Judah, and publish in Jerusalem; and say, Blow ye the trumpet in the land: cry, gather together, and say, Assemble yourselves, and let us go into the defenced cities. There is a time when God specifically has to direct us,..which is when we must move “forward” to advance. We also need though, to be wise in how we advance. The sound of the trumpet will give us the wisdom of how fast,.. or slow to proceed. That sound.. is our guide.
I Corinthians 14:8,9 8 For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who shall prepare himself to the battle? 9 So likewise ye, except ye utter by the tongue words easy to be understood, how shall it be known what is spoken? for ye shall speak into the air.
We need to know and understand God’s clear message of reigning over sin, in the beauty of His holiness. The enemy has a trumpet sound of a false doctrine that you can’t live free from sin. God’s true trumpet still sounds out,..that He wants His people to have the victory over sin. There is a sin,..not unto death; I John 5:16 If any man see his brother sin a sin which is not unto death, he shall ask, and he shall give him life for them that sin not unto death. God is faithful in any “sin” you are not aware of in your life, so that you won’t be taken in guilt of it. It is by the hearing of the trumpet sound.
Bro Goble made reference to of some religious individuals professing to having to battle constant lustful desires, who were also giving instructions in how to conduct themselves, in order not to cause a “failure.” God’s true trumpet, sounds the truth that you can be delivered From that lustful carnal origin, giving the strength from God to have victory. God gives victory over all the powers of the enemy, ..in spite of the opposition from immodesty. Luke 10:19 Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. God still has power over all sinful powers, including the dark power of lust. Romans 8:1,2 1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death. God’s people are called (by His gospel trumpet) to be Christians,..Christ like, not following the fleshly voice of doctrines (trumpets) of men.
I John 3:5-11 5 And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. 6 Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. 7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. 8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. 9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. 10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother. 11 For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Children “born” of the union of Christ the bridegroom, and His bride the Church of God, are all holy. There can be no sinful “offspring” from this holy union/marriage. Bro Goble in illustrative reference told how his children are from the union of his wife and himself. So,..of course those children are going to “resemble” their parents,..not others. Can You Hear the Trumpet Sound? Verse 11 The message of love does not contradict the message of judgment against sin. For without God’s judgment, God’s message of love would have no meaning. I am not a Christian unless I have surrendered my whole will to Christ, to live after His trumpet sound.
Joshua 6:1-20 (5, 20) 5 And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him. 20 So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. God had set aside a place of security and safety when we listen to His trumpet. The promised land was already occupied by “false worshipers.” This is possibly hard to understand. This is an illustration of how there is much to be conquered and overcome. There is much to be faced even in a sanctified experience. One of the Israelites battles was to face Jericho, a very strong city. When you face a strong enemy, you can’t sneak by,..or around them. Otherwise the enemy will conquer you. The inhabitants of Jericho would have been the conquerors.. if the Israelites had not listened to the sound of the trumpet, walked around the wall 7 times, blown those trumpets and shouted, ...to obey all they were instructed in by God. Likewise today if we don’t deal with our enemy, we will forever be haunted by them. Verse 5 We need to unite together, giving strength. Verse 9 There is order here. Verse 10 God wanted the people to know.. "I’m in charge." You won’t win the battle by your own strength and wisdom. Do You Hear the Trumpet Sound?
Every day,...what is God telling you about this trial, problem, affliction, etc.? God has a message for every day, for all our needs! What is the gospel trumpet telling us about real problems? You might say, “I’m trying to do right.” Listen carefully to God’s trumpet, ...to follow all He directs you in. We are given everyday of our lives,.. real victory when obedient to God’s trumpet sound! It is why we serve God! He is our help, direction, deliverance, and victory. Verse 13 The rereward was their instruction. Verse 15 ...This time they encompassed the city seven times! Verse 16 They were commanded to Shout.. showing their victory. Today there has been 7 gospel trumpet sounds/seals. "Babylon" has fallen in this fullness of time. God is still blowing the trumpet. The enemy is cast down for all who will listen to the trumpet sound. They live in God’s will everyday,..not just Sunday, or other occasions, etc. God has given victory over all Babylon’s falseness, which comes from the cup of her corruption. Can You Hear The Trumpet Sound? Verse 20 When they heard the sound of the trumpet, and shouted in victory,... the wall fell down! They were then instructed not to take anything from this city. We today likewise need to heed all instructions, to not partake of the accursed ways of the enemy of our soul. Can You Hear The Trumpet Sound?
What is God revealing to you? Advance, ..Conquer,..follow exactly what you hear from God’s trumpet sound of truth. Are you doing what God’s trumpet is calling you to do? Often it will go against the flesh. It requires us to spiritually leave all (the flesh) behind for His inheritance. One disobedience encourages more disobedience. We must adhere to All God’s message. God’s trumpet sound of Truth. Telling the truth, puts you in a position to tell more truth. Telling lies, puts you in a position to tell more lies. The reason people say it is impossible to live above sin is because they walk after the flesh. Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Do You Hear The Trumpet Sound?
