Problems, traumas in our life can overwhelm at any time, and sometimes often. Potentially we can be so immersed in those "storms centered around us," we might forget we do not have to, nor should attempt to, on our own,.. work the details all out. It is often too easy, in the present day "mentality," to think that we should be sufficent of ourselves to adequately "figure things out." Yet we continue to struggle, worry, become unhappy or discontented because of our dilemma. Frequently this may be true even for Christians that are immersed in their day to day "burdens." They too, from time to time, can forget that God is always standing nearby, as our potential (if not already) best friend that has every solution and grace for every situation. The question is,..Will you allow God to help?
TEXT: Joshua 5:13-15
13 And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries?
14 And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant?
15 And the captain of the LORD'S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.
We have a "sword" (thinking it is the gospel) when it is our flesh. We are often going through some "battles".. or it awaits us....
The "man" answered Joshua in this scripture, "As captain of the Lord, I am come," to the question Joshua asked,"Friend or Foe?" No one can overcome and conquer me, because God has sent His captain. God is very careful, He so cares about us. He has overwhelming sentiments toward me.
Joshua found himself in the Presence of The Captain's of God's Host! God when finding Joshua "needy" in his trial, sent him the Captain of His Hosts! Important to remember, Joshua's mentality was his awareness of his neediness before the battle, and of his need for God's captain to lead him.
We should never presume, that God will send help,,,if we do not Ask. He wants us to ask, acknowledge our need for His presence. Often we lose the benefits he has to offer, because of this "omission."
Do we "pay attention" to our need to ask for help, or do we become "self sufficient?" Friend or Foe? Don't ask that, when it is "I am the Captain of God's Host! Unlock your "dead bolt", Let Him into your great battles in life, and Help. Open the door.
We know that God made us,.. yet we do not often grasp How He can really help us. God can help us "unlock the door" to God! That fiery trial, that "holocaust" can be raging on the inside. We need to pray, "God help me to Allow You to help, through this Fiery Trial.
1: Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in. 2: And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour. 3: And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days. 4: And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams' horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. 5: And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram's horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him. God is showing that All of us are to fight the battle. Joshua did exactly as God instructed him. Therein laid the Victory. Otherwise, we are "on our own" if we do not take the exact help instructions from God
The concept of "predestination can become true if we always operate based on our past. We then bring forth the same "fruits" based on our continuance of the past, although flawed and fleshly.
Our only real help is to Ask of God... and follow in obedience.God desires to be asked. Ask!! Worship!! In Holiness!! We have to Invite Him,..to be our help. John 16: 24 Hitherto have ye asked nothing in my name: ask, and ye shall receive, that your joy may be full.
Joshua Listened,..did specifically what God instructed. God may not only instruct us to Do some things, but Stop from doing some things as well, ..and Continue to do other things He has shown us. The Point is to Ask Him,.. Listen to Obey for the help that can Only come from God.
We too often misinterpret things that we have been taught. So we must Examine if our "fruit" is Holy. If the fruit is not Holy.. we must Acknowledge it. God may encourage us to do "other" things than we have already been doing, because it was a help to us. God is Still asking, continually to help us. We must Listen to implement His help.
Joshua 7:1-9 We, as Joshua here, can forget our limitations and rely on our "own" understanding instead of only relying on God's wisdom. We can think "we know" but when defeat comes, we realize our strength is "melted as water." Likewise in this scripture is told how when they became "self reliant," they suffered defeat. Discouragment permeats, when we don't allow God to help us. Heartache. This does not define us as not being God's children, but it does underscore our fleshly limitations and need to awake to God being our only Real help and strength. If we truly Seek Him, God is that forever faithful, optimistic help that we can always depend on, and so very much need. Through our most difficult tragic times. Listen for God's "reminder" He loves us and "is Asking" to help.
Joshua 7:10-25 Joshua because of sin in the camp, "stumbled,"failed and rent his robes in defeat. It takes the Entire Host to help as God instructed. When Achan sinned it "revealed" that Joshua had failed to First Ask God to help in the battle. Sinful defeat was the ultimate result of the self sufficiency of not Asking God First and allowing His Help. This resulted in some having to be abolished and done away with to maintain God as The Captain.
Joshua 8:1-29 Now Joshua had learned to Listen, an gained the Victory, for God was waiting. The lesson it appears God would have us learn from this biblical historical account, is not to assume in any situation that you face in this life, that you think you have the answer. There was the spiritual need that needed resolving before God would bring them the victory. Any "under the surface" spiritual need, or any spiritual "issue" is anything that affects us in everday life. If not dealt with, that issue will become a spiritual issue. If there are relationship issues that interfer with our walk with God..watch out. The things that most potentially cause us grief and affect us more,.. are human relationships. People get in trouble when they take their problems and relationships "off the altar." If something "touches" it with an negative effect..and if it upsets or angers you. You know then that the problem is not given completely to God.
Again God is asking,..Can I help? What will your answer be?? God wants us to mature to the "solid food" of accepting His Help.
